901 gearbox advice needed
I'm in the process of overhauling the 1st gear sychro,s ect. and I discovered first gear has a chipped tooth (half missing)
My question is does this have to be replaced as a pair with the small helical gear ? Ive read the gears are factory matched but I see there are reasonable priced single used gears for sale. The gears still mesh well with no discernible roughness when turned passed the chip. |

Best replaced as a pair, for least amount of gear noise, if nothing else.

I’m sure I’ve got a complete set for you you can have for like $50. It will need dogs. Don’t buy a single gear. It will be noisy. It’s not so much they are “matched” at the factory as they wear in and become matched, if that makes sense.

Hi Matt,
That sounds like a great solution, I already have a new dog ring, slider and synchro,s It will save me the effort of removing the old dog ![]() The gearbox is from a 1970 T if that makes a difference for fitting. Regards Richard |
