MAJOR leaks please help!
My 1970 911 is leaking water out of what must be every crevice. I need to get some help finding these boogers because it has been raining HARD every day for months and I am afraid permanent damage will be done if I don't stop them.
First the front vent is letting water in through the vent in the driver side my driver side carpet is getting soaked. I've heard there is a drain hose but don't have the foggiest clue how to find it. I'll looked under the hood where the vent is but don't see any hoses. Underneath the dash there are a few hoses but all of them are intact and should be draining water if they were the correct ones. Secondly there is water pouring from under the dash onto the passenger floorpan, to the extent that the dash is completely dryrotted and useless, luckily I have a dash cover so it at least LOOKS nice. I am guessing that is a windshield seal. At least that is what I am hoping. Thirdly I found gobs of standing water in the rear half of the passenger side. I think that was caused by me not shutting the door hard enough, it has a rollcage and if you don't shut the door hard it doesn't shut all the way and the door doesn't seal right. Let's hope that is all that was. Nextly both back seats are drenched completely, the foam is saturated in the seat cushion and the foam on the body underneath that. It doesn't appear to be coming from the rear glass it actually seems as though the water is coming from the outer sides, maybe the rear side window seals? I wouldn't think they would let in enough water to saturate the cushions the way they do though, we are talking about cups of water, not drops! If anyone has had any similar problems I would really appreciate the answer as I am terrified my car will be ruined before I can get it fixed! |

I think I've found the major ones. The front vent appears to be not leaking much at all, that water must have been there as a result of the door not being full closed as I mentioned earlier, the slight leak led me to blame the wrong thing. I say this because I poured a 20oz coke bottle of water into the thing and there was no significant leakage. I then had a buddy repeat the process while I was in the car and still no major leakage, it appears to be draining as it should.
If I can assume I am correct about the doors not being closed properly I can narrow the leads down to the one dripping down the sides and into the rear seats on both sides, and the one dripping water under the dash on the passenger side. I've noticed that the seals on the the rear side windows, near the back, are horribly bad. I can see through them much more than I should be able to. The front windshield trim on the passenger side is also raised up more than it should have been and had trash and filth beginning to clog it up, I think the water is running down in through there and possible through rust hole that it may have created over the years. Eventually I'll pay to have these problems fixed but to confirm my diagnosis I'll probably just RTV the suckers. I do look forward to getting new seals for the rear windows as I am sure that they along with the shot seals on the doors are causing a large portion of the horrific wind noise I hear at speed. |
