intercooler benefits
I did a search and found nothing. This may be dumb but I am wondering if an intercooler would be a benefit to a non turbo engine. More like the difference of driving on a cold morning as opposed to a summer warm day. I guess I am wondering why this isn't utilized in non turbo applications as well. Thoughts?

Compressing air also increases the temperature of the air. The purpose of an intercooler is to reduce the temperature of the compressed air before it reaches the cylinder to reduce possibility of premature ignition. Intercoolers can't reduce the temperature of the compressed air to lower than ambient air temperature.
Adding an intercooler to a normally-aspirated car has no benefit as you won't be changing the temperature of the air charge below the ambient air temperature that the engine is already ingesting. |
