Euro Rear Fog Light

Can someone please post some pictures of RoW Carreras with factory installed rear fog lamp. I would like to see exactly how it's mounted. I am contemplating buying one from pp. I looked under the rear bumper and found the wires for this light wrapped in tape. I guess someone removed it at some point in my car's life.

Thanks for the help!

And if anyone has wired one after the fact, I'd be interested to know how. I would really like to do this on my '85. I've already installed a 3rd brake light to improve my 'rear visibility'.

Your car looks great!

Yes, starting in 1987 the rear fog lamps were built into the rear panel. The cars previous to this year had only one light mounted on the left side of the rear bumper.

Carl:

Thanks for the picture. Exactly how is it mounted? Also, I don't think I have ever seen a bumper reflector like that.

Jihn,
I had a stock one on my 85 German market Carrera. There is a bracket on the rear of the foglight that bolts directly to the valance (2 bolts). The wiring is threaded through a single hole in the valance that lies between these two mounting holes. There is a rubber grommet to prevent chafing. The stock light (at least on mine) is a Hella. Nothing fancy, but a nice quality light.

yes, get the factory bracket that holds that sucker on there. it will look nicer. mine was painted body color (white) and it looks like ferdenand put it there himself, albeit slightly crooked. the wiring is kinda tricky because you have to run it into the light and hook it directly to the post via a screw down holder. you will see, it and it makes sense. the other wire is just a ground.

This doesn't add anything to the technical discussion, but damn I like the looks of Euro cars w/ all of their original lights and reflectors:

Thanks everyone for the great pictures and info!

Speeder:

Yeah, I have to agree with you on that! I just want to know where to get those reflectors that are mounted on the rubber trim.

George:

Thanks for the great close-up! That really shows me how it's attached and wired. They say a picture's worth a thousand words!

Steve:

My wires are not inside the rear light assembly. They are in back of the rear panel below the bumper on the left side. It has its own harness.

John-
thanks - right side or left side? From the pictures, I would think the wires would be on the left side since that's where the fog light gets mounted.

I'm still wondering if non-ROW cars have the wiring as well.

Yeah, you are right. I made a typo error. It is, indeed, on the LEFT side. Thanks for pointing that out.

Steve:

Just crawl under the rear bumper on the left side and search for it. It should be pretty obvious. Let me know what you find.

Speeder,
Yes I agree. I installed the left Rear fog light years ago....before the boards, so input from others was limited. I wired mine to the tails lights for ease. I want to get back to some Porsche/Euro correctness. I just wired my H4 "city lights" this week to my USA parking lights.

Tomorrow I will climb under and seek the proper factory fog light harness connection.
regards and thanks to all,
Steve

You would have to cut out 2 holes in the rear panel for the fogs to fit. Not a difficult job. I hate my 'after thought' rear fog lights. I'd much rather have the built in units like Soupdragons.
