It sucked rocks. There were tons of people and vendors there selling parts. The parking lots across the street, and all up and down the road were lined with gorgeous porsches. The concours was also terrible. These cars were all so nice that the judges were feeling the back of the wheels for brake dust to differentiate them. There were 2 authentic (I think) 73RSs there along with many copies. There was a 3.8L 914-6. I scored a pretty good deal on a used external oil cooler thermostat in beautiful shape. And finally there were lots of friendly people all talking about porsches. It coulnd't have been any worse.

Did that make you feel any better?

Gee, I didn't think it was as bad as banjomike described.

I didn't get to browse much, as I was stuck at my booth most of the day. A highlight for me was getting to meet a bunch of NorCal Pelicans.

Ventura Autofest is still the best west coast swap/concours that I've been to, though.

Jim

I'd post pics, but I forget my camera. (I thought, turns out it was under my seat the whole time. DOH!)

Well, there was a guy selling some low mileage Max Moritz pistons cheap.

I didn't take any pictures this year, I spent most of the time hanging/helping out in Chuck's Elephant Racing booth. I saw Thom, Jorge (targadude) Keith, TomTurtle, jim72911t and Matt (makaio).

The only thing I saw that was really interesting was a CIS supercharger setup.

Unfortunately nobody bought my damn pistons.

Speaking of deals, the guy next to me, (Doug, a GGR PCA time trialer), had a set of good condition MFI heat exchangers that I saw for about thirty seconds as I was setting up my booth. It was 7am on a Sunday, so I was moving slow, to say the least.

They sold quickly.

About a half hour later, I came to my senses and asked if they were indeed MFI heat exchangers. Yup. How much did he sell them for?

Fifty bucks.

I scored a set at Pomona two years ago for $350, and thought I got a good deal.

Guess not.

I only bought a few things:

1. A Snap-On speed wrench for $7

2. A Porsche factory CIS trouble shooting guide for $10, that Chuck is convinced is a copy. Even if it is, the information is great.

3. A awesome billet 3.2 badge for my CAB, from Jim.

Met some great people, & so others I had met before.

And Tom Turttle's Club Sport is Awesome!

The swap meet keeps getting bigger every year.

That was me...

Hey Jim,

That was me that sold those MFI exchangers They did go to Denny Kahler's friend (of Kahler's Porsche Service..) so I did not mind them going for cheap, because Denny will be doing my tech inspection again next year for the PCA Time Trial series... The only thing I wish I had sold that didn't go was the set of 7/8 x 15 Fuchs.

All in all it was a good time, met some real nice people, including Jim (hope to see you in August at Thunder Hill, bring one of your gas pedal replacements and I'll try it out!)

Doug's site, under construction!

the grey long hood was a 912, there were two that could have been twins there.

a funny story though, a guy was selling an aria full face helmet, my pops was interested for go karting. the helmet was in decent shape, the guy went on about the visor and such, talking about the helment being worth 500 or so (it was in its day of 1997), my dad was not intrested in paying near that much so we excused ourselves. the guy was a charcter though, you know the type of guy that calls people over to look at his stuff, a very coersive seller if you know the type.

my dad and i later see a guy carrying the helmet and inquire as to what he paid. he was all weird about it and when my dad mentioned that dude was talking $500. his engish was very broken being of asian decent and he proceeds to tell us that he told the guy that it stunk and the seller said "well go ahead you can have it". pops and i just thought it was the dudes way of blowing us off because he did not want to reveal what he paid,, fine.

well we turn and walk away and see the guy that was selling the helmet and ask him what he got... he freaked and asked where the helmet was, the asian guy was standing looking at product at a booth right there. i point toward the guy with the helment and he sprints over to him and grabs the helmet and starts shouting down the guy for taking his helmet. the guy (helmet to self helper) was all shaking and saying "yyyyyou ssssaid iiiii could hhhhave it" (studder intended). i thought the helment seller was going to ring his neck, helment stealer,, errr taker was about to S himself and his partners scattered like they dint know him. i think if it were not for the enviorment dude would have gotten his helmet and taken to breaken out a can O whoop ace.

pops and i had a good laugh and walk out to my truck. i suggested that pops go back and see if he could get the unit all cheap due to the fact that we saved his helment from the "innocent" walk off. pops said it did stink and was a bit to big.

moral to this story? im not sure but it was funny as all hell watching it unfold...

The guy selling the helmet was the booth next to Chuck. We saw the guy who took the helmet, and the seller chase after him.

It was kind of funny. That guy was a real character.

Doug,

I didn't know you were a Pelican visitor. As far as the heat exchangers go I've let many things go for cheap or free if I knew they were going to a good home.

If you would have had a set of 4 15x7 Fuchs, you might have had a sale! Too bad the 8's won't work on my narrow bodied car.

I should be at T-hill in August, hopefully in the Porsche! I should have a full set of pedals by then as well (Accelerator, brake and clutch). After hearing from countless people that I needed a full set, I'm going to have to move forward on the project.

Cheers,
Jim

Lurker...

Jim,

I do more reading than posting as you can see by the number of posts I've made

I am a big Pelican supporter on the retail side however (much to my wife's displeasure ) but that's a whole different story.

Look for us at Thunderhill, we'll be paddocked next to the Reitmeir's Werkstatt trailer.

See you then,
