Fender Tape, do I need it?

Putting my car back together after paint. I've got this fender tape but not loving the idea of using it. When I removed the old stuff it was apparent that the tape traps moisture? I've got the panels on and aligned without it at the moment and it looks good.

Car doesn't see much rain and is mostly used for the track. Do I need to use it?

Think I answered my own dumb question. tape and sealer keeps the water out! If I don't use it I will have some rusty fenders.
