Mating a 1988 3.2 to a 1975 4-speed 915 trans?
I'm mating a 1988 3.2 to a 1975 4-speed 915 trans (#7250946). Maybe.
Will a 240mm pressure plate and pressure plate for the 1988 3.2 still fit in that transmission? Or do I need a (225mm) pressure plate and flywheel for an earlier 3.2 car (84-86) that used the 915? I was just getting ready to buy a Sebro flywheel that is for 1987 - 1989 cars. So it will fit the 88 engine, but will it fit the 75 trans? Since the flywheel is for 87 - 89, the webpage got me worried that it would only work with with the G50 trans. Looks like I need to make cuts in the trans bellhousing for the flywheel sensors, in any case, eh? But will a 240mm flywheel work? If not, which one should I get? I do have another 915, 5-speed trans avail, but not where I am now, and I don't recall what year it is. Will I have a speedo incompatibility also? thanks |

You’ll need all things 84/86 for the 915, including flywheel and clutch package
You’ll need to notch the trans bell housing for the sensors. Just remove the top sensor @12 o’clock Move a shorter bell house bolt to the starter location you need shorter bolts for the three other. Bruce Edit. You’re front motor Mount won’t match and you’re halfshafts won’t bolt up. My mistake, you’re installing it in a 75 Last edited by Flat6pac; 09-30-2022 at 05:43 AM.. |

Remaining issues, halfshafts and front motor mounts
Thanks Bruce, very helpful.
I should have mentioned, the whole package is going into a 75 911--88 engine + 75 trans + 75 car. Both the trans and the car have the 4-bolt driveshaft flanges. Will that work? What is the situation with the front motor mounts? Bill |

Motor City guide to installing a 3.2 in a 2.7 car.
Motor city guide to putting a 3.2 into a 2.7 car. They are installing a 3.2 that had been mated to a G50, like me. Yep, you can see how the crankcase studs are too long, in the installation section.
This'll save me a lot of grief: https://www.pelicanparts.com/MotorCity/marcesq1/Modifications.html |
