Can I Simply Cut The Air Conditioner Belt?
I don’t use my air conditioning, (cracked hoses).
Can I cut the belt and just go on with life? Maybe a dumb question, but?

I removed the AC belt a long time ago. Tried to get it out from around the pulleys and engine tin and just could not wiggle it out. So I just cut the belt. An hour spent trying to remove a belt I will no longer be using before cutting it.

I’m sure my memory of the weight is wrong, but I want to say if you remove it all it’s something like 60 lbs of junk.
In the meantime just cut the belt.

Not much drag on the engine unless that compressor was active, but the belt itself is serving no purpose anyway.
Remove the compressor, condenser and old lines and whatever you have up front. Easy enough to do and won’t take but a few hours. Likely the hoses, seals and possibly condenser all leak on the original system, and might not be worth trying to rebuild/fix a so-so cooling. |

If you keep using the AC blower for fresh air (not cooled), you may want to also disconnect the AC compressor clutch wire. You'll save a few amps (about three) and the compressor clutch coil won't be energized and heat up uselessly.
