Factory Windshield Seal

Is anyone having issues getting their windshield installed using the factory seal? The last auto glass shop I used (which came highly recommended by a well-respected Porsche shop down here) couldn't get the glass in my '84 using this seal and wound up breaking the windshield. I've spent the last two days trying to get a new Pilkington windshield installed using the factory seal and no dice -- the seal is loose around the glass and is not covering the pitch weld all the way around. I talked to another glass shop today that does a lot of older Porsches, and they admitted that they are having a lot of trouble with the factory seal. I understand that the redesigned Uro seal should be available in about a month -- maybe (hopefully) that's the answer.

I just had my windshield put in with a genuine Porsche bought in the last month and it looks perfect.

Did they break the original windshield or an aftermarket one? I ask because when I replaced the windshield in my SC a few years ago, I was advised to mark sure the glass fit the frame because many after market windshields are off. The glass was fine and I used an OEM seal. It’s hard to imagine the rubber causing someone to break the glass.

BTW, many e type owners have had problems with Pilkington glass not fitting. I just replaced the windshield and rear window seals on my e type coupe and was very careful with my original glass.

The shop that's doing my refresh of my SC (bushings, brakes, Carrera oil cooler, front and rear seals, etc) is having a ridiculously hard time finding a glass shop to install the front seal with the original glass. I'm told that yesterday "the guy" tried and tore the seal and they had to procure a new one. I'll let you know how this plays out. Seals being replaced as I'm getting tired of drying the floor mats when I wash the car. They are ~40 years old. . .
