89 Carrera high oil pressure
Hello,
89 Carrera seems to have unusually high oil pressure. Its about pegged most of the time. Is this normal for winter driving? Pics are after a hour drive (as hot as it gets). I change the oil in the spring with 20-50 and add a qt of 5-20 in the winter. Is this like a person with high blood pressure ![]() Thanks Chris 89 Carrera ![]() ![]() |

It could just be a sensor ground fault.
Put the ignition key on RUN position but do not start the engine. If oil pressure gauge moves up to 1 bar or even more, then it is only a bad pressure sending unit. Or only a ground fault. Next check is to ohm the sending unit. When no pressure (engine stopped), resistance between sensor terminal and sensor body (or engine case) should be around 12 ohms. |

Chris - that is not very different from what I see around those temps. As long as you are not pegged above 5 bar, not sure that you have an issue here.

In fact - there is a low mile 87 Carrera driving video on BAT right now that essentially has the same gauge readings as you show above.
