cosworth experts
Hi all,
Does anyone know, or know of, a shop or USA rep that deals with old Cosworth race engines? Thanks, David

MWE on Long Island do. I dealt with them 16 (!!!) years ago when they built the FF2000 that I was crewing for. Peter Marcovicci (The M in MWE) was often at the races and often came by to check on things and offer advice, even though we were a pretty small outfit. We never had engine problems. Generally when I've seen a vintage F1 car around and asked who did the engine, MWE often comes up.

Phil Reilly and Co in Marin (SF Bay Area) does a fair amount of work with the vintage DFV's and F1 cars. They are definitely worth a call. Also, you might try Hasselgren Racing Engines in Berkeley, CA. They built Formula Atlantic motors for years back when the series was running the Cosworth stuff.
Good Luck! Cheers, Chris |

John, cool site.
Those guys are about 25 miles from me, yet I never knew they had a dyno... My friends and I arent to enamoured of the dyno we keep renting... these guys may be more "friendly" to sports car guys..

I came into possession of a Cosworth full-race MFI slide valve setup recently and I was looking for some info on it; how to set it up, its rarity, etc. It's for an inline four Cosworth race motor.
Thanks for the tips guys. David

Tom beat me to it. There was AVO in El Segundo who prepped some FF, FF2000, and Formula Atlantics, but I think they merged into Dave Bean. It's been years.
AVO wanted to put a BDA in my old Fiesta. What kind of fun would THAT be? ![]()

Actually, this is a great thread. My next project might be an Europa or Lotus Cortina.
Any advice?

Back when I was a young boy (like the early 1990's) there was a Europa for sale in my neighborhood. I had my dad about 1/3 of the way talked into buying it. Needless to say the other 2/3 never occurred and I still want one.
Someone on this board brought one home a couple years ago I think. Perhaps he'll chime in. If you guys want to see the Cosworth slide valve setup, I put it on ebay. I concluded the missing parts were out of my price range and that, consequently, I'd never get around to experimenting with it. I'm sure some vintage racer would love to have it. It's cool-looking like all slide valve setups are.

Dave: Isn't $250 rather cheap for that? I don't know, but maybe because I've seen so much Porsche MFI on this board, I'm accustomed to "those prices."
Hey, you think a BDA engine could work in a Europa?

I don't know what it's worth. I simply hope that it goes for a fair price and, ultimately, to good use. I've seen full Cosworth slide valve setups with asking prices near $8k but mine is missing a few parts too. We'll see.
I don't know enough to answer your question about the Europa. Check out all the info at this cool site though: http://www.race-cars.com/utility/coswrthr.htm

I know this is blasphemous....but the last Europa I worked on....I pulled out the Renault engine and installed a VW (1565) that's a 1200 style crank with 92mm pistons....goes like H**L !!
Since then it has been re-converted to slow old Renault (in Toronto, Canada)....oh well...try to help....LOL. Bob
