89 911 Targa Replacement -Upgrade Rear Speakers

I am planning on Replacement -Upgrade Rear Speakers which are the originals with Porsche Replacements PK964REARSPKR .

My question is simply do I Have to plan on removing the rear Shelf/ Deck to do so?

My concern is what happens when I remove the four screws holding the originals down?

What is holding those screws in...Is there a simple nut or some other retaining clip that might fall?

Or is there a receiving clip/ nut that is attached to the rear shelf that I can just screw the new ones in with?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank You All in Advance.

Lee

Completed the speaker upgrade. No Problem.
simple removal of Speaker Grill Covers and then removal of the original speakers held in place by 4 screws ( No problem reinstalling the new Speaker Plate- You Need to Purchase these mounting plates too (that hold the new designed speakers) as the retaining nuts are secured to the rear deck ( So no chance of falling in).

Hi there - I'm about to do the same thing but I can't figure out how to dismantle the rear speaker grills. I removed the 4 mini bolts but can't figure out how to get the speaker out without breaking anything. Got any advice?

I went down the path original of the "flat" shelf speaker enclosure but ultimately found an old mach type and pulled apart, installed new speakers and re-covered. The advantage being forward facing speakers (6x9) and a more solid "BOX" to allow the speakers to resonate

Doesnt affect rear viability

Now I have a 77 targa so cant speak to fitment for a coupe

Hi, do you know if this speaker set up was a factory option or after market? David

Another option. I deleted my rear speakers and reupholstered the rear deck after filling the holes (easy). Then installed high end speakers with separate tweeters in the doors.

Perfectly acceptable sound for a topless car.
