a real quicky, PLEASE
Going to be parking the 911 in airport long term parking for a few days. To discourage theft (although only a bit, I know) do I have to remove both battery terminals or can I just remove the negative one?
Thanks, Ps - should you see a platinum Carrera in the parking lot, give it a smile and make sure no one is messing with it:) |
anybody up?
|
put a wire in your pocket
pull the distributors coil wire, take it with you, and have a good trip. SmileWavy
Just don't forget to plug it back in when you get back. Shawn. |
You can just pull one (negative wire). This will also prevent the battery from trickle discharge.
But, if you take the coil wire, they won't be able to simply re-attach the battery...(and, most likely, they won't have a spare). Personally, I'd do both if you are worried. |
if one is good...than two is better...
Emission has Established your (E) mission. Please do not put the coil wire in your pocket as I mentioned before.
Airport security and all. Two pelican heads are better than one.:) Shawn.:p |
Cool, thanks. Hey, where do I find my coil wire?
I hope you smarties are still up |
Shawn, Emission: you guys still there?
|
It goes from the centre of your distributor to the coil.
|
Oh noooo...
I am an early car guy. Mine has six going to to the engine's spark plugs and one going up and to the left...to a blue thing about the size of a 10oz can of juice...it's blue and has BOSCH written on it. Your in a....what SC...should be similar, the coil could be on the fan shroud though. Look for the one distributor wire that begins at the center and runs away from the rest of the spark plug wires. Later car guys...Help!!
Shawn. |
I think I can figure it out from here. Thanks, guys.

It has the yellow arrow aimed at it.
Have a safe trip!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/Coil Wire.jpg |
Or you could remove the DME relay from under the drivers seat....
|
or...
1.) leave it at home.
2.) let your friend/family member drive it back home(and have loads of fun while your gone) 3.) flatten the tires and punch a hole in the fuel cell!:D Shawn. |
How about the fuel pump relay?
|
what do you guys do down there...
drive your p cars year round? Wow...I want to move there. Could I make a living down there if I bring my snow plow trucks and set up?
I wanna go to a restaurant and hang with super models, rock legends, and movie stars. I guess I am an out cast. Park it at home doesn't work on this board. I will go back to my local northern lights watch and seal hunt board. Shawn.:D |
Cool... Platinum colored 911 Carrera at the San Francisco airport left unattended.
Checklist... 1. Check battery connections 2. Bring distributor wire 3. Check DME relay (bring spare just in case) Cool! Free 911. Woohooo! We're on our way. Just kidding! Have a safe trip. Regards, |
Just take a cab to the airport then you don't have to worry about it while your gone!!!!!!
|
I'll vote for the take a cab or have a friend deliver you option..

Use an old trick my Dad used to do to keep customers from taking their cars home without paying using a second set of keys.
Pop off the distributer cap, remove the rotor, replace the cap. (He used to do the same to me to keep me from borrowing our old beetle. I got wise and bought a spare rotor :-) ) |
I remove the fuel pump relay. Just remember where you put it.
|
Just put a set of keys in one of those magnetic box under one of the wheel well and I'll move your car so that people will think that the car is only park there for a short amount of time.
|
Err, uh...
Ifin you have an alarm, don't disconnect the battery! Any alarm is better than no alarm. Take the coil wire with you as others have suggested. Also, get a club. Even though easily defeated it's a deterent to a thief who doesn't know or doesn't have the correct 'tools' to disable. I also recommend a cover. The more time a thief has to spend at your car, the more time for someone to notice his activities! Cheers! |
My, God! I never knew so many people where as paranoid as me!
On any account, I made it back home and the car was just where I left it. (Although I couldn't remove the coil wire because it seemed to be clampted the sparkplug wires by some do-hickie. I did, however, pull the plug and just let it 'sit' atop the coil as if it was connected). Are a lot of cars stolen from the airport parking lot? |
I would think with all the security camera that are at the airports these days and the security personnel most professional car rhieves would stay away from airport.
Plus don't you have to pay for parking when you leave and that require the little ticket you got when you drove in and if you don't have the little ticket that may arouse additional suspicions. |
On my last trip to CA, I left my Carrera at BWI for a week, as I knew it would be a sight for sore eyes when I got back and would be itching for a nice hwy trip home. I brought my cover, ran the locking cable through it, put my truck club on AND (this is most important), I took my parking ticket WITH ME. That way, if anyone steals your car, they will not be able to get out of the lot without the ticket, or they will have to pay an outrageous amount to get out, which will probably stick in someone's mind later on, should you need to track them down. I always bring my ticket with me even for short term parking. Make it tough on the thief.
|
Don't go anywhere.....stay in the car and jump the first person that comes near it.....
|
Wouldn't you have a ticket if you went to steal a Porsche, and had a junker to leave in its place?
