My First Porsche - A 1977 911S
Hi there,
Let me start by saying how stoked I am to be posting this. Beginning of the year I purchased my 1st Porsche a 77 911S from Gallery Junction a Car dealer in Orange California. I spent the next few months importing it to Australia,Got it running drove it home and it ran soaringly hot - consistently. Car was hard to start regardless of conditions, temp etc. I since had the motor stripped down and found two of the valves had worn stems and had carbon'd the valve stems so it had 0 compression on 2 cylinders. Heads all rebuilt, top end overhaul with a few little upgrades - Hydraulic cam chain tensioners etc. Fuel distributor & WUR overhauled, got the car running and is still a little hard to start. So... If the car is dead cold, it will start fine- not great. but fine If the car is at operating temp 210-250 The car will start fine. But, If the car is sitting at aprox 170 it does not want to start, unless I pull the air cleaner over off and prime the fuel system. I have cleaned injectors & Ordered fresh ones along with new fuel filter & fuel accumulator which im currently waiting for. If anyone has had a similar issue in the past they could perhaps shed some light on that would be great. Thanks! Nicholas. |

Welcome to the 1977 2.7L club !
I have on occasional starting issues when hot but they seem ever so infrequent and never a complete stall. It looks like you’re in some hot climate than Calif. and wonder if your pressures and fuel mixture are set to accommodate the new environ. Proper #033 WUR rebuild installed ? Looks like you’re on to something by manipulating the Air Flow Sensor Plate … refer to this for some troubleshooting before replacing $$$ everything https://members.rennlist.com/vilhuer/K%20Jetronic%20Workshop%20Manual.pdf |

Start here: CIS Troubleshooting for Dummies
You're having issues with the Bosch K-Jetronic CIS, it's a very simple and yet complicated system that will behave wonderfully for a very long time if maintained and kept within specifications. It's not hard to work on, there are plenty of folk here who will assist you through the process and even a few who can test the components and rebuild them if needed. If you work through the problem methodically you will be rewarded.
