I replaced my factory speakers that had tiny magnets and paper diaphragm. I couldn’t get the speaker to nest in the cavity. I ended up using two sets, with the lower inverted. That raised in up about an inch.

The Guards Red line is a rubber-band.

JBL 6421F, from Crutchfield, $80 a pair. Acceptable sound, used Focal in front, they look stock. You can get VERY original looking covers on Amazon for 15 bucks. Mine were ok, but the mounting base after 34 years crumbled. Those were avail direct from Porsche and weren’t horrible. If you are a base guy you’ll be a little sad, but sounds much better than stock. Plus it’s a Targa…a $4k stereo would be a waste.

found these

did the covers from Amazon fit flush to the deck or did they sit high? Found only one 4 x 6 pair... they looked like they where high, about 1/2 inch not flush.

They are very close to the exact dimensions and look of original. My factory speakers are maybe 1/2” above deck.

The speakers and grills were original to my 1983 911SC. I changed them out recently and the photo from FA-18C look like my ebay ones I bought. My old, warped Original to the car, don't have the screens that cover the retaining screws. They were just simple flat plastic with a small oval screen.

Late 87 and up went to the 1/2in tall rear cover. Everything before that was the flush grill cover.

Dude - the screw pattern and shape appear the same, on the 88 it is two parts, there is a base plate that is brittle after all of the years and disintegrates, and the cover. Dealership was surprisingly fair on price when I looked. I did not realize these had changed, my early 87 had the same.

mine are less than 1/4"

Here are mine pictured with a Quarter...think /thought they were stock.

They are much thinner than yours. Remember they cracked immediately after install yrs ago.

Polk EX346 speakers

Possibly why my covers cracked immediately after install..They are too high and pushed again the cover.

Looked on Crutchfield and these Polks are listed as "DOES NOT FIT YOUR VEHICLE"

Guess the seller years ago didn't do any research.
