Carpet Replacement Question

Team 911,

As I embark on reincarnating my Cabrio.... I have what appears to be missing padding under the carpet. I ordered new front and rear carpets from GAHH. I have not received them yet. In preparation, I would like to know if there is a separate underlay/padding that should be there. It appears there was something glued to the floor that is now gone.

Do the new carpets come with padding? Is there something I need to order that goes on the floors before the carpet? I have read threads about Dynamat and plan on installing direct to the floors first.

Thanks for the feedback!

Not sure what year you have but my 87 came with these large pieces of padding that are lined with some fibrous material.

I just took them out as I had water leaking in my new to me 87 roller.

My plan is to take off all the fibrous stuff and back them with killmat as well as the metal floor beneath.

In the car's life, maybe it leaked and someone experienced what I found in my video below.

Ouch!
It appears that the padding is NLA. I will look at adding closed cell 1/4 foam on top of the Dynamat.

Has anyone else done something similar or have better suggestions?
