'86 Rear Speaker Grills...
Background: 1986 Coupe with RetroSound R-463N 4" x 6" direct fit speakers in the rear. At the time of speaker installation (2016) with no other good options, I had to go with the raised-style eBay knock-offs for the grills. The grills were never an exact fit- the wire mesh would occasionally pop off with movement/temperature changes, and I was never happy with the look.
Porsche Classic recently introduced a replacement Rear Speaker Grill #911-555-019-00 for the 84-87 Carrera ($104 each from our host). Don't take this as gospel, but for 1988-on I believe the Part # is 944-555-149-01. As has been discussed on this forum in the past, the original grill plastics had a rather thin wall and would crack over time. These new pieces are clearly thicker (no flex!) and appear to be a better design than the original. Really happy with these- I used 26mm x 4.8mm tapping screws from a Porsche interior screw set (strong fit). Anyway, very pleased with the look and quality! Here's a shot of the $20 eBay grills (installed in 2016, not factory correct, metal screens would pop off occasionally)... ![]() 1986 Brochure showing the OEM grills... ![]() The new pieces from Porsche Classic... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The screws used for installation... ![]() ![]() Cooking on a Porsche 911- The herb butter made the difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvXBR50rH9E
