They broken into my 911 yesterday afternoon. They tried to break the rear Targa window you can see several chips in the glass where they hit it but it did not break. So they proceeded to break the drivers side window. We were coming back from a long weekend so they stole the 3 pieces of luggage in the car, which included a laptop, didgital camera and some of the wifes jewlery.
also got my radar detector. Just the jewlery and the laptop puts me at about a 4500 loss not to count clothing and other items. Once I total it up I figure about 6-7k easy. Has anyone had this experience before, who pays for the contents stolen from the car ? Does my homeowners insurance pay or Auto insurance. If the homeowners pays the content loss does the Auto policy cover the deductable that I have on my homeowners policy. Anyone else have to deal with this......

Ah Joe, that sucks! Your homeowners policy should cover the personal items that were stolen. Doubt that either of the deductibles are going to be covered by the other insurance policy.

Joe--
that really stinks, and I know how you feel. Had a similar thing (without the wife's stuff at the time) happen to me in NYC 20+ years ago. like Kurt V said - homeowners will cover the personal items (minus the deductible) and auto policy the damage to the car (deductible again). sorry for your loss and the attendant crap in getting it put back together.

Here in VA the home owners can pay for personal items in the car but you need to read both your policies. Home owners policies may only pay a portion of the value on jewlery and computers. You need to provide real solid proof on value. Be careful as some policies only pay you a portion of value until you actually replace the item then reimburse the remainder up to covered value. Don't leave anything out of the list of stolen items no matter how minor you feel they might be as it all adds up. Auto insurance will pay for break in damage and any affixed items like stereo etc that are missing. Insurance policies usually don't cover any deductibles lost although you may be able to claim any unrecovered value that you lose on the situation on your income taxes.

I believe your insurance agent can write additional policies for electronics better and cheaper than electronics stores' protection policies.
