Missing hub thrust washer?
I took apart my driver's hub to replace the rotor and realized that there was no thrust washer installed. The bearing was directly sitting on the clamping nut.
https://i.imgur.com/zv5o88Cl.png Crazily, I haven't noticed any issues with the car. But now I've got the replacement rotor installed and I'm freaking out a bit about reassembling it without it. Is this the kind of part my local dealer would have in stock or is it more of an "order one" thing? Are they typically replaced when you swap in new bearings or re-used? |
Put the washer in place....you set the load on the bearing using the washer. It is a thick washer but you could source one just about anywhere if you had one to match it too.

The proper thrust washer has a tooth that goes into the groove in the spindle, which keeps it from spinning, so you need the real one.

Again, we need to know model year as there are 2 sizes of the thrust washer.

That T-washer also helps keep the grease packed in the bearing, in the bearing. While you can get the bearing pre-load adjusted properly w/o the washer, that's not the method for optimum longevity.

My dealer won't open until Monday. I don't live in CA where you can pick one up from a junkyard same-day... Just trying to find the method which'll get me the washer the quickest. |
Where do you live? With a bit of luck you’ll have another Pelican nearby who can help out

A new one is $7.........just order one?
