Restoration Inner Fenders and Front Tub
Hello fellow pelicans. This is my first restoration post of my 1979 911 SC Euro, 158K New England car. I purchased this car with the intention of fully restoring it to original with some tasteful upgrades. I have restored motorcycles but never a car, I plan on doing as much work as possible on my own. This project is so overwhelming that I had to make a plan to make progress. Basically, I am going to start at the front of the car and work my way back.
This forum has been an amazing resource and I have spent countless hours just researching and learning all I can. I am in need of some advice and direction on restoring the inner fenders and front tub. The front left inner fender and bumper bracket had major build buildup and rusted through the tub. I need a replacement piece. Does anyone have an inner fender and bracket laying around? I know I can purchase one but thought I would ask. ![]() The left upper strut inner fender area also needs to be replaced. Is this something that will most likely need to be fabricated? Will the left strut mounting point be compromised structurally? I know the whole inner fender $$$$ is available but I just need small pieces of it. ![]() The left fender joining place needs the bottom portion replaced. How close are the Dansk parts vs Porsche parts for this section? Is it a cut and weld or will it need some massaging? Looking to just replace the lower portion. ![]() Front tub locker plate needs the mounting holes replaced. I have not been able to locate this part, but it looks straight forward to fabricate and replace the sections. A doner plate would be awesome if someone has one laying around. ![]() Right inner fender looks mostly solid with some rust but no holes or penetration. Should I be worried about what is in-between the bumper mount plate and inner fender? ![]() The right upper inner fender near the cowl needs to be replaced along with a small section of the cowl along the fender mounting point. Should I be concerned about the inner cowl area? I know the window seals are an issue and I have not gotten that far yet. If someone has a donor car that could cut this and other pieces that would be awesome. ![]() Otherwise, I will need to learn to fabricate some metal. I am up for the task but looking for some insight before I dig in. Thank you for any input, parts, or direction.
