Carrera 3.2 hot start issues, idle hunting, backfire on deceleration finally solved!
 

Hi everyone.

My 1987 Carrera 3.2 starts immediately when cold with no idle hunting. The problem is as soon as engine gets warm it would take 3-4 seconds to start again and would hunt for around 8 cycles before idle settles. It would occasionally backfire on deceleration.

I decided to replace the fuel pressure damper (this is different from the fuel pressure regulator) after I found a new one at half the price (260euro) from what they sell out there, part no: 93011060230.

After installation all issues mentioned above are gone!

During installation the vacuum end of the damper had fuel which was clearly a sign of a worn diaphragm. This caused the engine to run rich and cause all the issues.
