Tire sizes on 6" Fuchs

I have 6x15 Fuchs on my 74 911 and need new rubber.

Original was 185/70/15 which makes a 640mm diameter.

Closest size (outside diameter) to that is 215/60/15 (639mm) where I'd go with the Yoko AVS ES100 which seem to be popular.

But do the 215s fit well on the 6" rims?

If so, what about 215/55/15s (617.5mm)? I know they are a bit smaller but the Kuhmo Ecsta 711 are dirt cheap @ $50 each. I've got these on my Solara and like them alot. Anyone have any picks of 215/55/15s on an early 911?

If 215s are too wide what about the 205/60/15 (629mm) Yokos?

BTW I did some searches but cuold get a good concensus on the 215 issue and saw nobody mention 215/55/15s

Thanks,
Pat

215/60R-15s (Toyo Proxes U1) fit on my car, no problems at all. I think it's a pretty common size to upgrade to.

EDIT - I've got 205s, not 215s.

If you search the archives you'll find a ton of information on tire/wheel options for the narrow bodies. I find the most popular tire size for the 15X6 fuch to be the 205X60X15 but 215's may work fine in the rear as well.

Actually, 195/65 are closer to stock than 205/60's. But there are not as many good performance tires in that size.

You might want to look at http://www.paspeedo.com/calculator.htm for exact diameter and width differences among different sized tires. HTH

I just put a set of 205/60/15 Yoko AV-1's on my 6" Fuchs. I was a bit concerned they would be too low profile and not fill out the wheel wells, but they look great. Very close in size to the 195/65/15's I took off which were, in turn, close to the original 185/70/15's! -- Curt
