Passenger Door Lock Repair

With the help of board members for random parts, and Weekend Rides for the final lock cylinder actuator lever, I tackled this repair today - several times.

Getting into the door is familiar and relatively routine. Getting the door handle off, very straightforward, however getting access and a socket on the most aft door handle nut is a nightmare. Finally was able to get at it with a 1/4" driver with the flex adapter. Painful and lots of technical language was necessary. The multiple repairs came from replacing the rekeyed lock cylinder and barrel sleeve with the new lever. This requires dismounting the central lock sensor. So in assembling, the plastic barrel sleeve aligns with a knotch on the cylinder, and this can slide into the lock barrel correctly, or 180 out and work for the door. However the key is to ensure the notch is in the area where the central lock sensor attaches. If you are 180 out, like this idiot, the door will work, but central lock will not on that door. AND, when using the central switch on the console or driver's side, it will lock and immediately unlock. So I removed everything and corrected the sleeve and voila' - we are in business.

Quick buttoned it up, and ingeniously decided before doing the door pocket to test the window - all good, and hey, why not the stereo. Yep, stereo wires disconnected, so back in for 3rd time. Now buttoned up and everything works as it should.

I would characterize this to a WIN on the register, but more like a triple overtime squeaker. But feels good none the less.

Key takeaway - make sure you align the sleeve in the lock cylinder or you get to become a disassembly expert.

Also

Of note - in this process, I now have a complete driver's door handle, several lock cylinders, a passenger door handle without a lock lever.

Also I have a complete ASP Porsche rekey wafer kit only sold to locksmiths.

I will put these on the classified board for any needing repair or spares.

Recently I started to have similar issues with my door lock. Emergency locksmith south london provided a list of reasons why the passenger door lock got out of order:
  1. Malfunctioning key fob
  2. Weak hood latch sensor
  3. Low battery level
  4. Disconnected wiring problems
He also told me a deep analysis of the whole locking system is needed to find the bug. Wish my luck!
