Any one familiar with this shop? Looking to have my 915 gearbox rebuilt by Peter. He came highly recommended.

Trying to get some feedback from anyone that has performed work on there air cooled Porsche from this place.

Cheers!

Peter Dawe is one of the most respected and skilled Porsche Specialists you could possibly hope to have work on your car.

I've been using his shop for eight years now. Excellent! Those guys are family now. My 77 930 is currently there getting a little service.

Fred, if you wrote an autobiography, I'd read it. Best, John

I have only good things to say about Peter Dawe, reputationally and knowing him and doing business with him myself.

I've also known faapgar since I was a kid (he ran a Porsche shop and maintained my parents' 911). He definitely has lots of interesting stories to tell.

Back in the day

Mid 70,s IMSA was like the wild west of the international cleansing of the almighty dollar.RV Salesman,Flower Salesman,Hedge Fund Dudes,Pyramid Schemes,People who stole the old fashioned way and just inherited the money.John Paul Jr.was a really good driver and real Talent. His father was a scary person so no comments until his obituary.Peter is the guy who was there and worked for Andial for years when it was Andial.A good autobiography needs several people. You had to see a CAR heauler with 10 935 motors,60 wheels,2 spare cars,15 gearboxes for spares. That was just one team. There were 7 to 9 teams at that time that well equipped. At that time my GTU 914-6 would arrive on an open trailer like the plebeian it was.We had fun neverless.Ciao

And don’t leave off the 924 GTR and D production racers. Peter was there at the birth of the water pumpers too. A bit of everything.

Called Dawes this past fall (while considering the purchase of a car that needed a bit of love... more on that later) on recommendations from older posts for "special" East Coast builders. Talked to Peter at nearly 5pm on a Friday, he was more than happy to chew the fat with a complete newbie.

This conversation alone was enough to know I had the right guy on the phone and I will absolutely be headed Dawes' way once further down the rabbit hole

924 gtr

Peter built a great turbo 924 for Imsa for a GUY named Tom from Whitehall Capitol.Came down the straight and under braking would throw flames like a medieval dragon from the bottom of the front door to the rear of the car.I would see that and pray for no fuel leaks. That was 1979.He was the best teller of stories because he told them with a twinkle in his eyes.I remember Sebring when he got into a tussle with a guy and the guys Puerto Rican girlfriend pulled a knife and stabbed him in the top of his shoulder. He cold cocked her and it was over.I think I clapped and made him a tourniquet.Imsa the Wild West back then.

LOL! I’ll be there tomorrow picking up my engine and I’m going verify this story!

Cool

Ask him about the time when they went under the tunnel turn at Daytona and came up to the traffic light behind 2 drivers named Hurley H.& Danny O.Got behind them and stood on it and pushed them through the red light into the intersectionThey were surprised. That is it or the autobiography is toast.Ask him and watch him smile.I would say give him a hug but do not.I spoke with him and he knows I love him.He answered my question on compression ratios today.Ciao
