Eearly Carrera Oil Cooler Mouting

I have a '76 Carrera 3.0 with the radiator syle cooler option. It was running hot this weekend, so I decided to take a closer look at the front fender mounted oil cooler. All it really needed was to have the louvers in the rock guard bent so that the airflow is better able to move through. At the same time, I also noticed that the mouting job is pretty bad.

The cooler is just scewed to the rock guard which in turn is screwed directly into the inside of the fender. This means that it is only held in place on one side of car and can move back and forth a little and bang against the horns. I looked in there and couldn't see any obvious mounting points or brackets either on the cooler or the car.

Does anyone have pictures of how these early radiator style coolers mount?

The correct factory setup uses an "L" shape bracket welded to the inner fender that extends under the cooler. Two bolts/rubber isolators attach the cooler to the "L".

Also the top of the cooler is attached via a bracket to the back of the headlight bucket, again using a rubber isolator/bolt.

If all is installed correctly the cooler is solidly mounted and should not move around.

Here is a picture of the lower mount:

So both upper and lower brackets are weleded in? I don't have the brackets then. I didn't even see a place on the cooler where the rubber isolators would connect.

You don't have a picture of the top mount do you? And, do you have a picture of the oil cooler with the isolators attached?

Here is a couple shots. You can the see the two rubber mounts at the bottom (sort of).

I don't have any good pics of the top.

Chuck,

Thanks for the pictures. They're actually very helpful.

Do the bottom rubber isolators bolt to the cooler or is it just sitting on them?
