SC sunroof air deflector springs

79SC with old style air deflector and the ends of this wild looking spring broke off (on both sides) right where they fit into the hinge strap that holds the actual deflector lengths. Spring ends should be about a half inch longer with a small hump that jams into the hinge strap. How its secured is unknown?

Are there any other creative fixes for this problem?

Pelican sells the whole air deflector assembly but the parts from Europe are a much more reasonable fix
