Installing Power Door Locks
 

Hoping somebody can shed a light on this before I pull apart the door of my other Porsche.
My new build is a molested ‘71 with parts from many model years. The doors and mechanism appear to be from G-body donors. I also have the power door lock wiring from a’87 but cannot figure out where the sensor for the actuator solenoid should be attached on to either the lock mechanism or internal portion of the door handle whether it be the factory or Rennline version.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Looking at your door handle pics, see the large cylinder portion that is inside the door, that the key slides into?

On the Gbody cars, there is a window cut in the side of it, and a plastic barrel that rotates along with the turning of the key.

This barrel has a notch cut into it.

Your first pic with the door lock sensor, the green tip of that rests into the notch in the barrel.

When the key turns, the barrel hits that green switch.

Your door latch mechanism has a Y or two prongs. That is for the older pre-G body style manual locks that will manually lock and unlock.

The later G body latches only have one prong, to unlock. On the G body cars, the lock on the door handle only unlocks the car mechanically (or is it only locks it, can't remember). The lock operation when turning the door key is done via that electronic switch.

Thanks Don for your excellent response. The light finally went on. I spent some time surfing yesterday and came across some pics showing that window cutout on the barrel. New door handles are in order.

Happy to help Johan. I just finished refurbishing my driver's door on my '87 hence it was still fresh in my mind. Another tip would be to use a teflon lubricant like Triflow on the lock mechanism and moving parts:

I've heard multiple times that this is what locksmiths recommend to lube locks, it seems to work great on my car.
