Beware of member megafish.jk AKA Junki Lee or Jay

As this is an issue with a Rennlist member, I wanted to share it here so no Pelican members fall into the same trap.

Hi All,

I have been a longtime Rennlist reader and follower but have not posted much, did a lot more on Pelican over the years. However, Rennlist has became an invaluable resource for the community and myself in-particular! I want to get word out about a member here that has gone by a few names in the Porsche groups

Megafish.jk
Junki Lee
Jay Lee
Timothy Tecson
Junki Tecson
Phone is 604-446-3769

I posted recently about needing some rear seats for a 997 in Carrera red...hard to to find pieces. Megafish.jk replied that he had a set and it took a little convincing to get some photos out of him but finally got a set of okay photos (first red flag). However, I decided to jump on the seats and take them. Sent the money via friend and family via Paypal as we talked on the phone and he does have quite a history on this site (which he was quick to tell me when I expressed some concern initially). This was about 20 days ago and every time I ask about weather or not they have been shipped..I get excuses or Ill do it asap this afternoon or tomorrow..etc. Did some more research and found that he was know as Junki Lee in the community in the past and is responsible for scamming many people out of money in the Porsche community for a few other scams. A quick google will bring up several other complaints. Resides in the Western Canada area.

https://www.revscene.net/forums/717604-anyone-know-jay-junki-lee-scammed-lots-people.html

He is in fact a Porsche enthusiast and owner. Writes several posts that seem legitimate, answers questions and stays involved with the community. It is disappointing that someone in the community who seems like a Porsche guy is taking advantage of his fellow enthusiasts. I have asked for a refund and doubt I will get one..which honestly Ill admit is my fault for letting my guard down. So I own my mistake! But hope that this will pop up when someone else try's to validate a transaction with a simple google search.*

Im sure there will be some on here that chime in and "know him"..but I would say if you know him and he is ligament, then tell him to refund me or send my seats.**

Thanks for reading!

Miles

Always use PayPal then at least you have a huge corporation on your side if you get scammed
If they won't accept PayPal then offer to pay the charges.
If that doesn't work.... suspect a scam.

Yeah I have become too trusting. We spoke on the phone for quite some time and he has a good history on Rennlist. So thought I was safe. But lesson certainly learned!

Sorry to hear this low life took your money. They're everywhere it seems.

Looking to learn here. What defined his good history on Rennlist? Posts in the tech forums? Or previous sales on the classifieds over there?

My 2¢:
PayPal Friends and Family transfer is typical method to avoid tax collection for otherwise legitimate money needs. Maybe this transaction could be reported to PayPal and get the account flagged from this sort of money requests since they are affected as well when it comes to fees.
Also, Contact the Canadian Fraud Centre and file a complaint.

No not anymore. It’s to avoid fees only. Everything above a total of $600 from January of 21 on is taxed and you get a 1099z

F&f is fees only

I just googled for a bit and couldn't find any reference that a 1099 is issued for funds received via PP friends and family. Yes, technically you should report any profits made, but it's left to you to do so. Is there a source stating differently?

The 1099 reporting was delayed for a year.

John that is awesome. Good news for many. It doesn’t matter to me I run everything through my Porsche parts businesses when it comes to these types of transactions so it doesn’t matter to me but many would be affected

A combination of all of the above. Has had many questions, items for sale, interested in items. Seems like a Porsche guy. But wont send the seats, provide a tracking number, or give me a refund. Would love for him to prove me wrong but its been 20 days now..

That area code is my area code. Does this person have a real name or just internet pro alias's?

If we know who he is, happy to put some pressure on him...

Cheers

His name is Junki Lee. Convicted fraudster. Lots of history locally.

Odd, been in the industry for 20+ years and in the local Porsche community for 35+ years, never heard of him... There are other's that don't have the best business practices but not to this guys level.... Mind you, we are not searching for used parts very often...

I am surprised those that have been burned have not got some form of justice to date....

Cheers

Chiming in to say that I was also scammed by Jay Lee aka Junki Lee. Sent $1350 for a 991.1 exhaust at the beginning of January, he was responsive at first, then excuses, then he stopped responding after I informed him that I filed a report. My claim was submitted to the Canadian Anti-Fraud center.

Wasting your time file claims with the government. Try using some common sense when dealing with people you don’t know. Paste pics into Google search to do an image search if they don’t have the item they probably got the pic off internet. ask if others know this person or can vouch for them, feels wrong it probably is. If people stopped getting scammed they would go away.
