LED turn signal issue
I have read other threads and trying to gather as much info as I can to resolve my problem
78 930. I ordered a LED lighting kit from Car Magic and also received a E26 relay. My relay isa 4 post. I also ordered a modified E36 from stokes. Here’re is the issue, all lights work. Emergency flasher works fine. My turn signals light up, along with the turn signal indicators in the tach. I have re-wired the tach lindicator lights by removing the blue wire and connecting it to ground. However the turn signals do not link. I tried both relays with the same result - zip! Carmagic sent me the BA7 light for the tach indicators. These do not fit the bulb socket. I need the smaller bulbs. I ordered new BA7 bulb connectors and used these. The tach light indicators light up, but do not blink. Do I need carmagic to send to me the smaller bulbs so that I can use the factory bulb sockets? Would these lights make a difference and allow the the turn signals to flash? Any help is appreciated. Thanks all |
I just sent you a PM.
Thanks Engelbert |
Were you able to get the flasher working correctly?

Correct LED at the tach mounted turn signal indicators. Tried the original relay, and both the 3 and 4-prong LED relays. All have the same result. Emegency flashers work, turn signal all light up, but do no flash.
Ideas? |

I put LED bulbs in for all the relay test. Prior to purchasing the LED relays, I had the stock relay installed and installed the incandescent bulbs in on the front turn signals and the turn signals flashed. Switched out with the LEDs and everything lite up, but no flash.
This is making me a bit nuts. Tracing electrical issues down is always a pain. Cleaning all the sockets with a small wire brush on a dremel. Then recheck all grounds, may home run some grounds direct to the battery, etc Not sure where to go after this |

Check if all is working correct, the emergency flasher as well the turning left and right. If it's all working correct. Start with installing one LED at the time, just one corner. Start at the rear. Check after each one and see if it's still working correct. Engelbert |
Did you by any chance do the alternator charge bulb..I would suggest putting the original back, it may not solve this problem but will ensure you alternator gets the correct signal to start charging

Or use these plug'n'play bulbs that the housings were designed for, but are much brighter than original (if that's what you're after.)

Finally, like everything else on this hot rod build, some ridiculous issue comes up. I have working led turn signals. Resolved by studying the wiring diagram. 2 different sources of power coming into terminal 49. One is constant for the turn signals, the other is the emergency blinker power. Which cuts off the input to the turn signals. So 2 power sources, checked continuity on both power leads. Then checked voltage - emergency switch was 12 volts, however the turn signal was 2 volts.
Okay, why the voltage drop. Really weird and odd result. The fuse to the turn signal power side had continuity, however thisshowedavoltage drop. Installed a new fuse and everything worked. The fuse must have had a separation. Enough attached continuity, but enough so that full voltage was blocked. Thanks all for all of the help and advise! Mark |

Let me repost this recommendation here: Change your fuses every ten years or so. These olde bullet style fuses do develop fine cracks, which increase resistance or make them intermittent. Often that what causes weird electrical problems, and just changing the fuses makes the problems go away. It's a crappy design. Or replace your fuse blocks with the Classic Retrofit fuse blocks that use blade style fuses.
