Yes I have the Bentley book for my 82SC. Should be getting the fuel pressure tester today.

Do I need to adjust the timing since I removed the CIS for rebuild?
Car was backfiring and the RPM would surge and the car would shut down.
This was before sending my WUR to Tony for rebuild. 82SC
Thanks

Joe,

Use an inductive timing light to check your ignition timing. If you had not disturbed the distributor setting you should be good. You also need to verify your fuel pressures (control, system, and residual) and most important is to make sure you don’t have significant air leak in the system. They all leak. It is a question how much leak you got. The key is NO significant air leak to affect fuel mixture. Ignition and valve timing should be checked too.

How was your fuel distributor initially set? I would put my money on air leak. Keep us posted.

I didn't adjust or do anything with the FD. I did a flow test into clear plastic bottles and they were all the same amounts.

Joe,

Start from the beginning. Do not depress the pedal accelerator. Leave the car in neutral with parking brake on and turn the ignition switch to START. How many attempts before you could make the motor to start and idle without any assistance from the gas pedal. Share with us any observation pertinent to running the motor.

How did you perform the smoke test? Share a picture because this is a critical test to locate the hard to find air leak/s. Keep us posted.

Tony
