Voltage Regulator difference - 1986 Coupe

So, chasing electrical gremlins I was researching the alternator , etc and have a question -

There seem to be two variations of voltage regulators available...

This Porsche genuine parts model:

And this aftermarket model:

The price isn't concerning it's just the original is much more robust and heavy. The aftermarket one seems to be bare bones.

I have both in hand and am researching the function overall - but can't find much about the breakdown of the Porsche VR vs. the aftermarket.

My question would be is one better than the other or are both fine just constructed completely different.

Is this a real case of: "you get what you pay for!"?

I own old BMW bikes and Land Rovers so am very familiar with "over engineered"...wondering if this is the case with this item. Also, just want to make sure this isn't an engineering necessity with what appear as the extra components on the Porsche original model.

Any input is appreciated!
Erik
