Wayne, can you make this kit?

Back dating the heater duct:

Parts:

Left hot air duct, 930.106.321.02, list $148.20
4 plastic nuts, 999.591.592.40, list $.25 each
2 rubber plugs, 999.703.044.50, list $.77 each
Right hot air duct, 911.106.327.00, list $53.45
Right engine cover plate, 911.106.036.00, list $14.89
Right engine cover, 911.106.827.00, list $5.04
Right air duct support, 911.106.331.00, list $1.30
4 feet of 2 1/2" SCAT hose (silcone rubber-based, good to 450 degrees) from Aircraft Spruce and Specialty, cost $21.

You have all of the parts except the "Right hot air duct". If you would go ahead an get that part, then you could sell the whole kit. I would think at least five people would buy it for this winter.

I have all of Pelican Parts equivalents in my project list.

Good idea razor!

Note, you will have to bend the drivers side duct to get it around the distributor, I did the "whacking" with a hammer after I had painted mine so I screwed up my paint. I guess if you buy new parts be prepared to repaint the one duct.

I'm in the process of helping a friend do the back-date. As of this post, some of the parts are on B/O at Porsche's NA warehouse.
I guess the word is out.

When I bought this stuff last year, the left side duct already had the bend in it. Don't know if mine was a fluke or not.
A very desireable thing to do regardless IMHO.

You would be backdating the heating system by installing these pieces. Doing so removes the heater blower from the engine compartment as well as about six feet of hose. Gives you much better access to the left side of the engine with the downside being that while at idle, the cabin will not get much heat. Once you are going though, the engine cooling fan pushes more than enough heat to keep the you warm.

You had the Turbo version. It will clear the distributor.

For a car like mine or yours, Dan T, I don't think we need the same parts. Because of our heater setup I think the only thing that we would need is the driver's side heater duct and whatever it takes to connect it to the coupler coming up through the engine tin on the driver's side since we have a splitter that sends that air to both sides of the car.

Hmm, while not necessarily a bad idea, I can't imagine too many people really wanting to do this? We can order any of these parts separately though. The heater system is anemic, that's why that blower motor is there - I'm not sure how many people really want to take it off?

Followup - these parts are also easily available off of used older engines. They are very common at swapmeets for about $5 each. In fact, Tom Woodford (1-760-731-7535) probably has a ton of them. I would just go the used route, rather than pay about $300 for a kit...

Not when you run SSI's !

When SSI's are combined with the back-date, you can cook a meal in the footwells

I sure don't need no stink'n blower now!

I agree with Doug. Even with the stock HE, it was the exception when I would need full heat for very long to get the cabin warm. With SSI's/Backdate, it is positively roasting.

Anyone know what the turbo Duct part number is then?

That seems like the better part to get, so you don't have to do any fabbing.

Thanks!

Chuck

Chuck,
The parts listed way above are the exact things that I bought last year. According to Paul, I have the turbo duct. Ergo, 930.106.321.02 should get you the correct part (I would hope).
