What happens if it doesn't start after all that work???
 

Mr. Adams of shifter fame on this board and I are working an issue with the new car I bought in March but have not driven more than 50 miles. One Sunday morning after a nice wash and a treat of injector cleaner in the gas tank I came out to the garage to find a pool of fuel on the floor. The car had some issues when I bought it, ( needed a battery, an oil change in the worst way, accelerator petal flopping around), but for the price it was expected, but I wasn't expecting it to pee on my floor. Bad car. So I brought it over to James's house but on the way it started coughing and weezing like there was air in it, fine as long as you didn't try to accel. I had to pull over half way there for fear of doing damage and towwed it the rest of the way.

We pulled out the gas tank, and sure enough, it had a leak. In fact it must have had a leak before beacuse someone drilled a screw into it and then pull chaulk around it. I guess the injector cleaner cleaned out the hole too. So after taking the tank out, changing the fuel filter, and restoring the tank with por 15 products on the inside and out, what other things might be causeing my problem? Granted the tank is still out, and that may have been my whole problem, but as long as I have it apart, I'd like to do any fixes I can so that I won't have to go in again. It had a nasty habit of stalling out, (wouldn't idle) when it was hot...250 deg. I'd pull up to a light and have to keep my foot on the gas.

I just want to drive my new baby...faults and all, but want to fix it right not like the yahoo the owned it before me. Don't get me started on the socket and spring that was used instead of a $4 bushing inside the shifter.... http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/.../smileysex.gif

What if I told you that the previous owner solution to rust on the driver side B pillar was to spray insulating foam sealant (the yellow stuff you put around PVC pipes) on the inside of the fender!!

Probably our cars where owned by the same person...

LOL... I just can't understand owning one of these cars and then cheaping out on it. The shifter thing amazed me. A big old socket with epoxy in the drive hole and a spring. My shifter was all over the place, I bought a new set of bushings from here, for like $6 and it was so much better. I've found a screw in the gas tank. Fuel tank with a spark plug cap on some line. Not an entirely abused car, but one that needed to be rescued.

Frankly, the car looks pretty good in the pic. Get a few bugs out, and enjoy a fun driver!

Is Por-15 resistant to hydrocabon? (inside your tank??)

Clean out the lines if they are in good shape...carb cleaner into the lines and blow it out with are several times should help. I'd disconnect the engine end of the hoses and do this while the other end is open and inserted into a bucket or directed toward your buddy's face (don't look in there! you dope! :D )...I don't think the carb cleaner will harm your lines if you don't use so much of it and let it sit in the lines long. Right guys?

Hey, that doesn't look half bad from a distance. Could be a fun project. I like the color. If it doesn't start, just go grab a cool beverage, sit in a lawn chair and stare at it for a while, then try again.

The car is actually in good shape. For the price I paid for it, I'm happy to put some work and money into it. Just turning into a really nice summer, and i haven't gotten to drive it at all. What to get it working well before I use it as a daily driver. I had a 924 that used to strand me on the side of the road....rather not repeat that.

It is a pretty color, needs some paint when you are looking at it up close. Can't decide if I want to stay with this color, or that kick ass blue/grey that I saw in that bunch of Monterey Pics from a couple weeks ago.

FWIW, I like your yellow on black wheels. If you change colors, I'd do a ground up restoration so you get the engine bay, under the hood, etc. Otherwise, stick with what you've got. Can you post more pictures of it?
