MSD Streetfire Installation Question
Hi,
I'm installing an MSD Streetfire in my 1977 911 S Targa as part of my migration from a fuel-only EFI setup to fuel and ignition. The docs I have found seem to indicate the thick red wire on the Streetfire needs to go to the starter solenoid. I've also found some posts that indicate it can go the top fuse on the rear fuse panel. On my car the top fuse is marked as "Sportomatic" and is currently not used. Checking it with a multimeter, it is reading 12 volts, I believe that is connected to the batter. My question is, can I wire the MSD Streetfire to this empty fuse, instead of the starter? Thoughts?

The MSD needs constant 12v on the fat red wire. Where it comes from is irrelevant. It's easiest to find a constant 12v source in the engine bay fuse panel to save on running extra wires all over the place, but you can certainly tap the starter if you don't have constant 12v in the engine bay.

Thanks Julian, I'm going to use the extra 12v source in the engine bay fuse panel

I was running an MSD 6AL on my 930 and wired it to the starter. One time when my 930 would not start, I jumped it, but it wouldn’t start. I sent the unit back to MSD and it was fried. They said it was from the jumpstarting the car and not to connect it at the starter.
