Flag Mirror Motor Repair or Modification

Does anyone have any experience with repairing the OEM mirror guts? Mine seem noisy. Maybe a louder muffler?

I just removed, lubed, and fixed my passenger mirror. Turns out I had some turkey wiring, but you might see something useful in my video below:

Power mirrors shouldn't be that loud. I put a drop of 3 in 1 oil on a toothpick and dabbed the motor bearings.

I also sprayed the gears with some teflon spray and badda boom, they work like new.

My 1985 mirrors are only moving side to side NOT tilting... I have had the mirrors, motors and switches apart (new switches and connectors).. Can not figure it out.
The Mirrors do work perfectly on a 12v transformer. Tilting stopped separately, not simultaneously. I think wires are wrong in the connectors somewhere, I am can not read schematics and have burnt out the diodes switching the wires around....when I do that the rivets must be taken out to get to the diodes withing the mirror motors...not doing that again!!
Any ideas?

porschedude996 should look at my other posts to troubleshoot.

Jgunari, if the mirrors move with power applied directly to the motors, then it most likely has something to do with loose wires or bad connectors
My car is an 89, but I'm happy to take pictures of the connectors and wire colors if you need.
Not sure if you can make out the specific wiring in my video or not.
You can contact me too if you need help reading the schematic.
Tom

Jgurnari;
Looks like there may be an issue in your schematic. See the marked up pic. Brown usually is ground. Ignore the yellow circle at the top right -

Thanks, all the commands are good, the motor/gears seem to be noisy. Maybe i’m trying to compare to modern mirrors on my cars.

hey Tom
i believe the brown wires are for the mirror glass heaters..???…. think the white is ground when testing the mirror off the car, not sure if that counts for the complete system or only testing for the motors are off the car.

like to see your wires, but think the colors will be different.. and depends on where / what they are connected to of course.

Brown is almost always ground on a 911, regardless of year.

For your '85, looking at a ground distribution diagram, brown (ground) wires for the mirrors ground at ground point G116 on your car:

For your '85, looking at a power distribution diagram, black with a violet stripe provides power from Fuse 5 (16Amps) to the outside mirror switch:

This is the remainder of the wiring colors and connector numbers for your '85:

On the plastic connectors I would expect to see numbers next to the pin holes. This will enable you to see what SHOULD be in what pin based on the wiring diagram.

Just saw this message..Thanks so much. Will be checking it out

I would think it doesn't matter where the wires go into the connector as long as they match up to the corresponding colors in the other connector

Thanks
