adjusting targa side seal
The driver side targa seal seems to push out on the window when closing the door. The door aligns perfectly with the body and door gaps are great so I dont want to play too much with that. I understand that I can pull the door card out and adjust window fitment but not sure which adjustment points to use nor do i really want to pull the door apart. Is it possible to adjust the side seal ...ie are the 3 screws to mount to targa frame slotted for lateral adjustment?
Thought i d ask before attempting the window frame thanks |

Thanks Harry
As per my PM, I believe the first step is to understand how the top of the glass engages the seal..is it into the small groove or does the window butt up to the outside of the seal That will help determine next steps... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1674771976.jpg |
This is how my window sits. Inside the groove, just barely.

I would try loosening the seal screws and adjusting before fiddling with the window.

Thanks Harry, I will attempt to adjust one side to see how it goes...I dont believe I need to move the seal much to obtain the into groove results, but i ve been wrong before
|
not much movement in the side seal.
How far off is it? |
The window is about 4 MM off of getting into the groove from what I can tell. I ve just removed the seals that were glued down thus why i could adjust laterally..so will redo with new screws/washers but leave loose and test fit tomorrow am to see if there is enough range of movement to allow the glass to get into the groove. This all started because with the window rolled down, the door closes perfectly and all panels/gaps are to spec so I knew it was the seal binding the closing with the windows wound up (needed to close hard to get 100% closed)
Always something to improve :-) |

Yes, i ve removed the 2 seals and pealed back to get to the screw slots, undone the glue that Dan P applied which was stopping any adjustment. I will redo with new screws/washers and mount loosely, put the top on and see if I can achieve the correct fit to the channel versus the outside and hopefully not have to do any window frame adjustments though I suspect I will because..well, its a porsche and nothing is easy. I ll take some photos with the old position and the revised position and post
thanks |
well, that took a lot of fiddling including adjusting the door catch, drilling new mount holes in the Targa frame for moving the seals and about 20 on off fitments (wife thought I was crazy)
Now glass is in the groove instead of butting up against the outside of the seal. I still need to use some force (not quite slamming the door) to close doors which I believe is from the lower door seal being new and very proud. Next is to tackle meniscal gap between ws seal and targa top driver top edge.. probably could solve if I could have latch pull the top down a bit more..need to investigate how to adjust latch now here are results though hard to tell in pictures Thanks to all for encouragement (Harry!) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1674859888.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1674859902.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1674859921.jpg |
Wow. This is great. I think I will need to something similar. My door takes some force to close also. Also the glass is pushed in the outside trim. And a bit of it is inside. Am worried so much so that I let the window down a crack always when in the garage etc.
Need some advice on the glue. Which glue did you guys use. |
