Question 911SC Stone Guard Decals

My '83 911 does not have them. It has recently been repainted and ceramic coated and I am trying to decide whether to apply the decals to the rear fenders and I am asking for comments. Yes or No?

It all depends on how you like your 911 and whether "perfect" is the plan.

No doubt, if you drive on sandy/dusty surfaces the front of that fender will get the odd chip and damage that the decals help with if not eliminate, much the same way as the rock film that is put on the front of cars also helps there.

I put the black ones on my previous car (speed yellow) as I liked the accent it gave, but my new car (orange) may get the clear ones as the look of black on the orange is probably not as good as black on yellow.

Keep in mind the other areas that get sandblasted are the front edge of the hood, the flag mirrors as well as your typical bumper/valence issues.

Personally,911's are meant to be driven and they ought to show that they are used...not garage queens, so the chips never bothered me all that much.

YMMV...

consider trying MagnaGrafik. I have them on my 993. They are magnetic stone guards that can be put on/off in seconds. You get protection when you feel you need it.

If you do want to add the black guards, heat them up with a heat gun, to make them more flexible, before application. They will fit the curves/swell of the rear fenders more easily.

Place the bottom line to be horizontal (i.e. parallel with the bottom door lines) but only gently attach the point where it meets the fender lip line. Then gently continue following the fender lip line. Once in place along the curve, work outwards, fanning slowly along the whole curve. Don't pick a spot and work straight out.

My '78 SC was very original in appearance so the black guards on white paint fit the look. (But not original.) Now I'm moving to a non-traditional look and I won't be using them. Probably, go with the clear protectors as much as possible.
