Looked at a clean looking Silver/Black '92 C2 coupe on a dealer lot this afternoon. Body, paint & interior in great condition. 100,000 miles. However clutch inoperative (pedal pinned to floor thus no test drive). A PCA buddy/C4 owner along for the look-see said be aware of probable need for top end rebuild soon. Everything worked except emergency flasher & AC. Car obiviously garaged by PO. Dealer asking 21,900 but salesman claimed a "mistake" on internet ad ??? . Will need new tires but has '95 Targa rims.
At this asking price I'm willing to fork up for a top end rebuild just for piece of mind...thoughts & comments appreciated. Ted In So Fla '86 Targa Carrera Blk/Blk---for sale? |

Ted,
Who is the dealer ? I'm located in Palm Beach. In in non-hydraulic clutch set-up(may not apply), the clutch pinned to the floor is probably an indication that the Throwout bearing has become displaced from the pressure plate. Lots of labor in exploration and repair. Best of luck.

With that mileage it should be under $20K. With it non-operational it should be closer to $15K. I'd say keep looking...the 964s have really dropped in price.

Rich,...I PM'd you, Thank you.
Nostatic, hmmm kinda of a good news-bad news tidbit...why is this? Are 964 dogs, notoriouis lemons or what? This car is ding free, scracth free, sounds nice but is not driveable. Interior is a 9.5. My current plan is PPI at shop of my choice and check clutch mystery at their expense....OR beat down price even more & flat bed it away at my risk. Only other issue is head room @ 6'3" with helmet...a problem..head touches ceiling w/o helmet. Ted in So Fla '86 Carrera targa running very sweet! They aren't dogs, but instead are somewhat of a red-headed step child...a new car under the skin with a mix of new and old looks. In general thought to be more complicated/plush/problematic that the earlier cars, and not as beautiful as the 993. There were also some problems with oil leaks, flywheels, and distributor belts, but those can all be fixed. The reality is that especially with '90 cars, it isn't difficult to find them for under $20K...especially with high miles.
SOme consider them to be the best "deal" going right now...a lot of car for not a lot of money (compared to a 993 or even a low miles 3.2). Depends on what you like...they do have a torqy 3.6, better hvac, and power steering/air bags. |
