HArdware assortment..I thought it would be easy....
Years ago my then race car sponsor (he owned a NAPA store) got me a nice metric hardware assortment. It's time.
I thought it would be easy, but....I want ..ideally...cad plating, because Porsche 911 and why not for other things too?. M6-M10 in various lengths and locks and flat washers is the idea, M12s would be nice too. I'd consider yellow zinc as well. I would love it in an assortment because of the completeness, and saves a pretty long ordering process...but if I can find the right thing and the ordering is easy I'd go a la carte and order it line item by line item...if it's the right finish. Seems like silver plating is easier to find in assortments. I bought a couple bags of cad plated from pelican for my old engine tin and shroud hardware, but thats just one size... Thoughts? |
Global Metrics is where I get my yellow cad hardware. Belmont Ca.

I've been using Belmetric.com for yellow zinc fasteners. Usually they have everything I need but not always when you get into sheemetal screws of certain sizes.
What's the site for Global Metrics? |
FWIW, Würth offers an assortment of yellow zinc assortments. Würth rep told me to find what I want on their site and call Pelican to order.
Some other small assortment (Classic 9 Leather Shop) and à la carte options discussed here... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1075904-where-get-nuts-bolts-hardware.html |
I am still working out of the remnants of a Wurth assortment in a red single drawer from 20 years ago. I think you can still get an assortment from them, but I usually use Belmetrics and sometimes the dealership. They have been pretty good for price comparison. Pelican used to have some assortments already built out, maybe just go through the PET and ID some sections to build out and make your own.

What happened to the packing slips from BelMetric that were listed? I just got back to my office to print them out to use as a guide, but now they are gone.
I'm hoping the poster will PM them to me. Dall |

I usually order a thousand each of the most used items and refill my toolbox selection as needed. Saves time.

Damn JW, thanks for rubbing it in... I suspect Pelican is more than willing to offer the Wurth MISC HW kits. They have various kits for fasteners for engine tin, fender mounting etc... I have a single Wurth tray and a Fastenal 4 drawer stacked sliding tray like yours.
I never throw anything out, so always have a bolt or nut that fits. I have all new HW for my spring plate install as well as front end sway bars. Anything that comes off goes in an OLD drawer and I keep a mix of nuts for valve covers and exhaust studs in the drawer all the time and slowly have built up a decent mix. Not like JWs though. Of course I am only working on one car. My wife believes I am rebuilding the car one fastener at a time... |
Belmetric is where I get all of my lock, wave, Schnorr, flat, etc. washers and nuts when plating customer work Jake.
Note that everything you buy now is zinc, not cadmium. I strip the zinc and then have everything done in cadmium both because it matches the rest of the job and is superior to zinc. |
Important to keep a sorted out selection of used stuff too.

I would pay top dollar for a kit of 10-20 each CAD plated common hardware. Just something to get me started and address the common use-cases.
|
This kit has been awesome for my outlaw build.
|
Thanks! Just pinged the seller to see if he's planning on selling any more kits.

I suppose I should just send most of the order to you, BUT, the sorting would be a *****...(I'm assuming I'm not getting a bag with 542 parts in it LOL) .I've got M6-M12 in various lengths and pitches as well as hundreds of washers/nuts....and I imagine it's not cheap. How often do you do batches? I'm guessing a couple weeks once you get enough parts for a batch?? Kinda nuts to buy all new shiny yellow hdware and then strip it! LOL |
