Almost done. As I start to clean up the room, there's an odd sensation that an era is ending. (Would I rather be at the beginning than the end of this? Strangely, yes.) New Chief of Security started in building a few days ago. Met him yesterday. Discussed with him the possibility of the engine going missing under his watch. He said "No way. There's cameras everywhere. And always someone on watch." I asked to see what the view from the camera outside the "engine room" looks like on the security screen. He respecfully declined my doing so. Seems a bit off kilter that I'm paying for security and I can't see it working, but OK. Security apparently is... secure. Never mind the task of assembling the engine, so much surrounding that process has been a "journey." Broken agreements, machine shops screwing things up, parts being without apparent quality control, new tools being crap. It's all comical after the fact. Ultimately, I'd like to think that regardless of the foibled journey, this engine has the care built into it that when the pedal hits the floor, the angels will sing. . |
At the beginning, and given the work space being swiss cheese, I had relentless visions of the engine wandering off. To a large degree, those unpleasantries were quenched by the idea of hiding a tracking tag in/on the engine. Credit goes to Richard a.k.a "Porschyard" for that stroke of genius. Not that a tag would prevent the engine from wandering... but I'd have the pleasure of knowing where it was & going after it.
Thank you Richard! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1683984764.jpg Tag has been moved around engine during build. Engine's now done and returned to shop where it gets put back in car. Thanks to each of you for your valuable input http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif . |
