Audette Collection is Looking for Beta Testers
Going to have to close registration. Great response (thank you!).
I'm afraid we may have more applicants than our ability to provide bulbs for. I'll keep everyone who signed up to date. And we will send a t-shirt to everyone who applied. Looking For Beta Testers As you may have noticed, Wwe are in the process of evaluating the viability of replacing H4 bulbs in reflector headlights with LED bulbs. Based on advice from our expert automotive lighting consultant, Daniel Stern, we have never offered these bulbs before even though they have proliferated like a virus. Read our new AC White Paper: LED Bulbs vs. H4 Bulbs in Reflector Headlights to see if you might be interested. We need a number of Beta Testers and we will send you the bulbs free in return for your thorough evaluation. We will also give you an Audette Collection t-shirt. Contact John by using the pop-up "Request Info & Recommendations" form available on every page on the AC Shop website. Thanks, John

Timely subject for me. This particular project is on my list in 2023 after the old shop renovation is completed this Spring. I definitely like your company’s approach in analyzing new products.

John, this is something I’m definitely interested in and will be watching for some updates once the reviews are in.
I am curious though, is there or will there be an option that has a similar color temperature as the existing lights but with more output? I ask because I’m likely one of the few that prefers the original color temperature since it matches the fog lights and to me looks correct on the older cars.

Right now both Philips and Osram have very limited color choices. They're both around 5500K, which is cool white. Which I'm thankful for as I'm not a fan of blue.
![]() I imagine there will be more options moving forward.

Preliminary Test Criteria
For those of you who might be interested, here's a look at the preliminary testing procedures that our AC Beta Team will be performing:
1) Try them out in as many conditions as possible, use low beam and high beam, and closely observe how the headlights work—the light will certainly seem brighter and whiter on the road surface close to the car, that's a given, so try to look beyond that. 2) How's the distance reach? 3) The spread? High and low beams? 4) In rain or fog, do you get objectionable backscatter? 5) With the lamps switched on and the car in a garage, is there more upward stray light (on side and front walls and ceiling, above the beam pattern)? 6) With an LED bulb on one side of the car and a halogen bulb on the other side, shine the headlights at a wall about 20 feet away after dark. a. Is the low beam cutoff and upsweep preserved with the LED bulb? b. Are there holes/shadows or streaks/spots in or around the beam pattern? 7) Enlist a helper with another car, and try to check for glare on a 2-lane road—oncoming, as well as with the LED-bulb-equipped car behind you so you can check for excessive mirror glare. 8) How would you compare the LED bulbs to the bulbs that you have been using? Please feel free to let us know other ideas that you might have. Our team is going to earn their t-shirts! Cheers, John

The optics don’t work in factory housings/lenses meant for incandescent bulbs. It’s physically impossible. End of story. No matter what you are selling an inferior even dangerous product.
