Fuel Accumulator Time to Change
Hi,
81 sc I'm thinking of swapping in a new fuel accumulator. Car runs fine etc... reading several on the board reporting that they will eventually fail (what doesn't). It would seem that at 40 years why not do so pre-emptively? I'm placing an order today for a bunch of stuff and want to include this. Should I blow the money and get the Bosch replacement? Are they as good as the original, any issues with them? Phil |

40 ml or 80 ml? I have a used 40 in my spare parts bin, tested and working
but your mount may be for the 80 (bigger) Easy to swap out but need various metric spanners or better yet crows. 2 of each is best You can do in situ..i did and just use a rag to catch any leakage Good time to change fuel filter while in there |

Thanks for the offer, Mine is working well, just looking to replace the stuff whose lifetime is limited before they break down, but only if the replacement is better than what is being removed, that's the dilemma at times with new replacement parts. |

FWIW, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. My 176,000 mile 1973.5 is loaded with original parts. I only replace them when they fail. or are due for scheduled maintenance.
I did replace my accumulator when it failed in 2011 after 38 years of faithful service. How old is yours?

Hi Harry,
40 years old... ~110k mile, New one is on the way. Typically if it ain't broke works for me... Especially if everything is working well, but when I start to hear guys like Tony saying he's starting to see more of these fail, what the heck, why wait. Call me crazy, but if the car is running perfectly, that might be the best time to swap in a part, that way a smaller decline in performance can be attributed to the replacement component. I'm also planning to boost up the system pressure a bit, or at least change out the o-rings. But one at a time. Phil |

Mine lasted 48 years on my 1973.5T. Actually, it was showing sings of leakage 4-5 years ago, with harder starts, but I wasn't driving it much then. I'd say have a spare on hand if you're already past 40 years.
