Convert SC to Narrow Body??

Wild idea here... Can you put early narrow rear quarters onto a SC/Carrera? Maybe someone's old narrow quarters when they went wide, fg units, or working the existing panels?

I'm thinking of backdating my SC but I'm one of those that just LOVES the original body design. It was perfect in 65. And I love the way my SC is setup, just would be interested in having it look like an unmolested early car.

Can be done...BUT you are probably better off money wise to just buy an early one unless you are a fabricator. Most back dates keep the SC hips since they do look nice. I have a 77, so narrow body, and it is pretty identical to an SC less the rear flares.

It's all just metal so anything is possible. Most people keep the SC flares so that they can have wider wheels/tires... It may be worth investigating just reshaping the SC flares... then again, the narrow bodies really do look fantastic; understated and elegant.

There are 911R style flares that still allow for a 7” rear wheel. Forget about 8s if you go this route.

Unless you are prepared for self inflicted punishment (like I have), stay with a galvanized body. And use steel flares.

Is the suspension different too? I know steel vs. aluminum but are they narrower

No. LWB, narrow Body middies and SC all have the same suspension geometry. Only 930 and turbo look are different.

Wouldn't do it. Never.
The broader hips of the SCs are mainly prettier for most people than the narrow ones of the earlier cars. I got your idea, the narrow body cars are pretty as well. But then - in my eyes - those cars urgently require chrome applications (window frames, mirrors, etc.) as well. This makes it more and more expensive.
Also you'll get more technical disadvantages: Then you can run 6&7inch rims only. Expecially on the rear axle they're won't perform as well as the 16" 8J rims on the rear of an SC or Carrera. Also the wider track of a 8" wide rim on the rear helps the car to perform a lot better on windy roads than the narrow body cars.
If your pockets are deep enough - go and buy such a car and leave the SC as it is.

It appears that restoration design sells complete rear quarter panels for your needs.
