Yet another wheel question
 

Still searching for a set of wheels for my 88 and I keep running into difficulties.

Ive decided that $4,000 for wheels (Fikse, Kinesis, etc) is waaaay too much money and I cant find used ones. Ive also decided that Im not going to go after wider Fuchs.

Ive seen a couple pictures of 3.2L's with Cup II wheels (993). Im relatively sure Porsche never made the Cup II's in the early offset, and I dont want to run spacers for a variety of reasons.

How good (bad?) are the aftermarket replica 993 Cup II's in the correct offset? Any stories of bent wheels, broken wheels? They will be used for both street and track.

Thoughts?

I went thru the same thing with my 930. If you don't plan on tracking the car alot, I bought some ROH wheels and tires from jd wheels .com the whole package wheels tires and lugs on my door step for $1600the fit and the look was Great!! he has alot of picturs of P cars with many stiles of wheels on them, check it out :D

I had an after market cup II wheel break at Watkins glen two weeks ago but I had about 40 track days on them. The offsets were good. I just ordered some fikses 8,s and 9's for $2700. For the street the cup II wheels are probably fine. I don’t think anyone is making the cup II wheels any more but if you really want some I have a set in good shape that I won't use on the track anymore.

Be patient and you will find a nice set of used wheels on Rennlist or PP. The aftermarket cast wheels won't hold up on the track...for a few bucks more find a used set of forged BBS or Fikse's. 7 and 9's will work nicely under your Carrera fenders.

Not to belabor the point, but why not the 2-piece Fuchs? $1700 for the set, or thereabouts.

(In fact, I might have a set of 8's and 9's for sale now that would fit a Carrera or SC.)

Interesting concept... Jack - same question as above - the 2 piece 17 inch repo fuchs? Or OEM 16's?

I wonder how they would look on the car.

Ill be honest with you guys - Im looking for something thats pleasing to the eye (fills out the fenders - those OEM 7's in back are pizza cutters) and will stand up to track use.

Im not serious enough to loose sleep over weight, but I dont want to be cracking a wheel every 40 laps.

The car will probably see an average of 3-4 track days every summer.

Let me try this another way, though... Ive been lead to believe that spacers are a big no-no for track use because they place stress on the axel that it wasnt designed for. Any validity to this?

I bought these after looking for a few months. They are BBS 7and 9 X 16's and have really held up nicely. Got them for $1200 to my door. Not a great deal, but what I was willing to spend.
