Smuggler's box AC blower motor part number?
 

The AC blower in the smuggler's box has been squealing lately in my '85. Since I plan on driving that car to Parade in Palm Springs, I plan on having the AC functioning properly.

There seems to be some confusion on which part it actually is.
911.624.899.00 seems to be an AC blower.
911,571.320.32 seems to be a fresh air blower.

Apparently there's also a blower up near the battery, too?

And then there's 965.624.151.00 which I'm pretty sure is in the engine compartment, expensive, and glad that doesn't seem to be it.

I'm pretty sure it's 899.00 looking at the PET PDF, but the local dealer and a local shop have both said it should be 320.32.... based on a pic this very old thread.

It’s been a while since I removed my ac from the 77 and packed away, sorry I can’t get to it today, but as I recall there was a small sticker on the side of the blower that had numbers on it, visible on the right side. Mine was a VPC-CCCCool unit. Totally different from the fresh air blower. Why the repairs/parts shops can’t figure this out is a mystery.
It’s not that difficult to remove the blower. You may even be able to pop it open and lubricate the fan shaft, bench test and reinstall. My fresh air blower will squeal at times, leaving it on high for a couple minutes it will quiet down. Fresh air blower much more complicated to take out.

For an 85, I REALLY recommend contact Griffith's for his hurricane blower. It takes a little more work to make it fit, but it blows more air, and it is not that crappy Bosch design. I have one and I love it.

I too will be going to Parade this summer. I expect a real test of my 85 AC system. I think I will be fine. I have the full Griffith's system with 4 condensers and all new hoses, and the variable fan speeds. The only part of my system that is original is the front a rear condenser. Everything else has been upgraded expect the fan for the front condenser. And double check your front condenser blower! Make sure there is a fuse in there. From the factory, there was no fuse.

I'll check out that Griffiths unit, thanks, and make sure that front blower is fused.

I would oil the fan itself without removing the entire evap box from the smugglers box if you have working AC and don't want to vent your refrigerant.
To make it easier for now and later, once you get the four clips off the box (if you didn't lose them) throw them away anyway and drill four holes for screws to put it all back.
Makes life much easier...

Have decided to go with a Griffith's and update the refrigerant.

When driving back from the Poconos last year we were in Arkansas in the late afternoon, on I-40 driving due west, directly into the sun. The sun was shining on my chest and my wife was in the car with me. It was 102 or so outside. The AC was doing all it could, and we stayed comfortable, even with my wife sharing the AC blowing.

Back in 2019 when I was returning from Boca Raton, FL at about the same place in Arkansas, due west again, in the same 100+ heat I was alone, and I had all the AC on me. I got chilled and had to turn the AC temp up a little.

You will not regret the Griffith's fan.

Thus begins the slippery slope.....

The Wirblesturm fan from Griffith's is fantastic.....highly, highly recommend it.

items 16 has 2 motors listed:
A) 901 624 901 00, which depending upon what authority you search under
might say it supercedes to 911 624 899 00, again depending up where you are getting your info fits a
85 & 86 year, and some suppliers might ship you
a front condenser blower motor which won't work on an evap blower wheel and case,
or they may have pictures and descriptions of other motor applications,
which will make you want to quit what you doing and go and get yourself
the first Pet.
And, an 86 evap box top uses a plastic blower which is a different topic.
B) 911 624 899 00, which is discussed above.
