Joe- PM me, I’ve got some resources for you.

That chatGPT response is pretty funny.

Joe,

I am currently using a Perfect Tuning gauge in the dash mounted in the clock hole. It is an upgrade from my earlier units.

Here is an example of one I built for a clock years ago. Should be easy to find a display that fits the referenced location. I was running a serial output. That might be easier than CAN to get started.

I have some C code to parse the data once you get the comms sorted out.

Here is another one I found in the archives. I forgot about building this one. Man these were a long time ago.

I'll reach out to you. I read your post about a similar project. I'm intrigued, but haven't reached out because it's a bit of a priority two at the moment. I just finished up my engine and have been focused on tuning and some other things (master cylinder, brakes/rotors, a defrost project (no heat), etc...). I was interested in the project because I was waiting on engine parts and on winter "lock down" (have I mentioned I hate winter) and was looking for a stretch project.

Killin' me! You are the man behind the curtain. Hahaha... these are cool projects.

I had found some off the shelf solutions, but I was looking for a learning project that was "cheap" and I want a really small form factor that I can blend into the dash. I wasn't interested in losing my clock - just yet, but that might be an option, if I come up short on my arduino atttempt.

Jamie - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Your historic and continued contributions to this board are incredibly helpful and valuable to me and so many others. Your posts and direct suggestions and guidance have furthered my understanding as I dig into and refine the tuning of my car. YOU DA MAN!

Admins, please sticky this thread ASAP.

jmz 02-21-2023 03:59 PM

Nicely done Jamie and as usual, once again you are very generous with your knowledge!

agreed, this should be a Sticky post.

There have been some questions related to tuning ITBs. I admit that I glossed over the Megasquirt ITB Mode above in the description. I am currently tuning a car with ITBs and was going through this process. There is a good technique using Megalog viewer to filter out data. I have used this technique for about 10 years and I just happened to find a great YouTube video that describes it much better than I can type.

I will say that this does vary depending on cam specs, ITB size, and overall engine configuration. However, the process is basically the same.

I am adding this here as a reference. Enjoy!

BTW, Did anyone else notice any non-linear alpha-n scaling on the TPS scale?

Looking forward to joining the fraternity... thoughts on who to trust with overhauling and repairing my 72 stacks and throttle boddies?

Great info here, I will be using this thread to get my system running its best.

Thanks Jamie

My goal is to have a super small form factor display on the dash where the seatbelt/brake light is. It's about 1.5" x 3/4". Plus, I'm just trying to learn a little about arduino and CAN so it's just a fun project. We'll see how it goes. I may end up aborting and finding an off the shelf solution to fit where the clock is.

If you make one, I will happily buy one from you....I want the same thing with my Motec 3.4.

I ended up going with this:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694461831.jpg

It's a Zada Tech Display that I designed a 3D printed bezel for.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694461831.jpg

It works beautifully for dual AFR.

I have been working more with Zada Tech and could likely get whatever you wanted in the same form factor that could display dual readouts of anything you wanted. It can also be designed to rotate through many more outputs with a small joystick (dial).

That is fantastic....I am just about to get into 3D printing as I need it for my custom centre console front (which I will post when done), so the bezel you show makes perfect sense.

I will check with the Zada people and see what they have, sounds like there is a good solution over there. I would prefer a CANBUS connection as I already have an output run from my Motec, but an alternative might be to just tap into the O2 sensors in parallel with their connection to the Motec...I assume they just sense voltage so ought to be able to feed both the Zada and then Motec without issue. May have to research that point for a bit.

Thanks so much,

D.

Amazing work here by all involved , great help for us newbies with ITB setups.. Thank you !!!!!!!!!

This is, partially, what I did. I have standalone AEM O2 controllers. These output a ~5v signal. I run this in to my ECU to control fuel, but I also tee off of this and run them into the Zada Tech gauge. You can tap into a voltage output like this, typically, without issue, but you can't tap into a resistance sensor, e.g. most temperature sensors.

Zada Tech gauges can accept CAN bus inputs also. From the CAN bus you can display any variable that the ECU can output.

pampadori 09-12-2023 06:06 AM

Not downplaying the efforts of that display, its very nicely done! But a lot of these ECMs have a CANBus network that sends all sensor data and calculated outputs thru a couple of wires. A steep learning curve but find a display or gauge that works with your ecm's CANBus and you can keep tabs on every single little thing your car is doing.

Who have you guys used to rebuild the original itb's?
