New momo wheel, horn not working

I installed a momo wheel with Porsche adapter on 73 911.
There is a gap between adapter and steering column and a bit of play in steering column if I move wheel up/down or side2side.

Horn does not work although I hear relay click, so the contact pin is making contact with copper ring on column.

Should adapter mate further down on column?
Suggestion for horn not working?

Did you transfer the spring and bushing on the end of the Momo Adapter?

I did not have a spring or bushing on my original wheel.
The turn signal cancel tab on original wheel appears to be thinner than momo adapter, I’d have to pull momo off to know for certain.

Do you have that silver ring that’s in your reply, it gets installed under the horn button and between the wheel and the hub? The horn button has to be grounded to this.

You need those two parts to keep the steering wheel from wobbling. The 928 sleeve will not work in the 1973 and older cars.

For the horn, if you ground the brown wire in the column does the horn work?

I do have the grounding ring installed between wheel and hub.
I believe the copper loop (can’t see it in this picture) from horn button contacts the ring for ground.

Harry,
On the backside of the wheel I have, there is no means to attach the turn signal cancellation/contact sleeve.
Wrong wheel then?

The base of the adapter has the cancellation ring built in.

The silver ring goes between the momo wheel and the adapter. This provides the connection to ground. If you look at the horn button, there is a metal spring on the edge, this contacts the metal ring. You connect the horn ground to the horn button tab.

Harry,

I believe I have ground adapter ring, horn button set up correctly.
I think I need a different adapter to deal with steering wobble - do you know model# that would work.

This thread may be helpful. Weird Horn wiring issue (wire keeps breaking blinker cancel tab!)

Glad to help.

Years ago I struggled with the same issues. I have several posts trying to help others.

Mine has a gap as well. Do you hear the contact pin scraping against the horn ring?

Harry

I have continuity between the horn ring and the female pin that connects to the horn button.
When all assembled, if I press horn button I hear relay click, but no horn.
I’m going to reinstall original wheel today and test that horn works.

Thanks for checking on gap.

Here is comparison of 65-69 vs 70-73 steering columns.
It appears I have been missing the spring (#13, 70-73) all along.

question:
is what I have indicated in pict as #12, the steering shaft bearing? It appears for 70-73 the sleeve is not used/required.
