Stainless Targa Band restore

I have a 1972 911 with a few scratches and a ding in my stainless band. Any suggestions on where to send it? I'm in Reno. My fear is that someone will polish it too much and make look odd.

You probably want it brushed not polished.

That makes sense. Wonder who can brush it?

You can. Scotch Bright and some lubricant- WD40 or other. You only do it in one direction which is long ways. It works with or without a sanding block.
Can't remember if I used black or red Scotch Bright.
Experiment with a couple to see which one gets the desired brush.

This is what you need. They make them in different grades of coarseness, so you’ll have to find the one that best matches the factory finish. You might have to remove the bar and try it in a hidden area, or start with the finest grade and work your way up to the one that’s a best match.

Looks like an overpriced scotch bright solution.

Why would you bead blast a stainless steel targa bar and destroy it??

I’ve used Scotch-Brite and I’ve used the Bergeon bars to refinish brushed Rolex oyster bracelets, and the Bergeon bars give a much more even finish and are easier to use.

To start the restoration process. I’m talking about a fine glass bead or say soda. Then polish and protect.

My 72 was DA sanded with 80 grit and buried in satin black to look newer. When I restored it I had nothing to lose. The circle swirl marks from the coarse grit sanding was horrible. Used an inline air sander through finer grits and brought it back to perfection. It's only a piece of metal. You really can't make it worse and will eventually get it done, It was very satisfying to rescue it.

Have you seen them polished? They look great.
