Part Identification - Small metal box in frunk
Hey all,
Can someone please help identify the metal box posted in the picture? It was in my '83 911SC Targa and was laterally mounted in front of the gas tank in the frunk on the passenger side of the car. There was a small black wire attached at the top, and it appears to have some kind of insulative strip or something inside it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1677018360.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1677018406.jpg Thanks! |
I’ve never seen that. 1966 912 and 1988 911

I believe it was part of the alarm system back in the 80s. Motion detection
|
I’ll agree it’s a tilt switch for a car alarm. There might be a mercury vile inside, the screw with the nut on it was to set the sensitivity. Had one on my Cutlass…1979.

Ec900 for the win. Tilt sensor. That was as advanced as alarm systems got 40 years ago.
|
That looks like the kind of thing that Smokey Yunick would put on a race car to get everybody guessing about what it could possibly be while he made an illegal change somewhere else on the car.

Devil dog.

I just pulled an identical piece out of the frunk in mine. Was definitely a motion sensor from the half-baked alarm system. Good riddance!
