Which Cerakote C-Series color for muffler?
 

I'm planning to cerakote my heat exchanger and muffler 'cause I'm tired to spray and respray VTH ... it really do not like rain, wash service water and high heat even if is a good match to the original gray tone. (Also SSI are stainless steel and VHT peel off easily even if primed with the VHT Primer)

Can any one more experienced user tell which color is closest to the original factory gray?

C8200 and C105 or C7900?

I used the titanium. I’ll try and find a pic for you. I also used gold on the straps that hold it in Vs plating them and clear Cerakote. Came out ok.

That’s the 2 colours I did. I forget. Ones titanium and one may be alluminum.

On a side note I glass bead’ed my Mag Fan and shroud and clear cerakoted it and it was amazing.

I used H-190. I was not trying to match anything...just a nice flat black/grey

So you used H series instead of C series. The difference between C and H series should be temperature range resistance .
Just for curiosity, how did the C series performed ?
Has paint peeled off or burned or changed in color during use ?

H series is a two component oven cure system. Repetitive heat ups to 300F then once on the car a couple more cycles. Good enough heat protection for gun barrels.
I'm not sure how hot the heat exchangers get. The headers are inside and not visible.
C series is probably better for headers, pistons etc but I have seen no coating failure on mine. The prep is very important and also not handling them with greasy fingers (using gloves to install) until the bake-in cycles are done.
C series is ambient temp cure ....spray it on let it dry....

Not answering the original question, but FWIW, and posterity, I just had a pair of muffler tips done in Cobra Black (satin black) by Olympic Coatings in Escondido...

Just to add to this thread:

I experimented with mixes of C-series Glacier Titanium and Glacier Black.

Ended up using a 10:1 mix of Glacier Titanium:Glacier Black. I'm no color expert but probably could use more blue to match the current Porsche Classic muffler primer.

The high temp air cure is definitely easier to shoot and more forgiving than the H-series, and the temp rating is much higher.

Just waiting the 5 day cure period now. A few samples from light to dark in the photo. In person they are lighter than they appear in the picture due to the overcast day -- you can see below my thumb how much the shadows affected the photo.

100% Glacier Titanium (bottom left bar)
10:1 Glacier Titanium:Glacier Black (upper left bar)
10:2 Glacier Titanium:Glacier Black (right bar)

Idk why people keep spreading this, but the oven cure V series has a MUCH higher temp rating and chemical resistance than the air cure variety.

Not sure why you would say I am "spreading this", since I stated facts.

Glacier C-series is rated to 1,800° Fahrenheit, which according to Cerakote's own website is the same temp rating as V-Series.

V series is literally designed for exhausts, turbos, etc. V series is also 100% uv stable, and what they market as "BEST" for exhaust systems.

C series is not as UV stable or as durable, and has a much wider range of uses. It was not designed specifically for exhausts.

I'm sure it's still great, but it is inferior to oven cured V-series.

Which one of these mixes would most closely match RAL 7040? RAL 7040 matched the most with the original paint on clean spots of 11/74 heat exchangers.

I'm doubting between Glacier Forge and Glacier Titanium currently. Thanks for your cooperation! (Assumption: I will not find an oven and have to restrict myself to the C-series and can only approach as good as possible).

None on those shown.
RAL 7040 is flat gray while Cerakote Titanium or similar are shades of silver.
I've mixed my muffler with the formula 10:1 Glacier Titanium:Glacier Black

As you can see my paint "reflects" light.

I have to admit you're probably on the right way because you are getting flat colors.
If I remember well original muffler paint is really similar to RAL 7040 but with light blue shade... can't tell if it's a colour variation due to heat.

For info ... one of the "best match" I've ever seen is from Highland.
Try searching for "HiTemp 808 Series Porsche Exhaust Paint"

I'm not a fan of C series, it's a little soft. For high temp and UV protection I only use V series. 3.2 exchangers in Cobra Black

Thanks Fizeus. The Highland product seems to be silicone based, so my bodyshop is obviously not willing to use it. I proposed similar products before (https://gebruiktehoutkachel.nl/product/dk-therm-hittebestendige-verf-blik/).

The combination 10:1 Glacier Titanium and Glacier Black was also on my short list (ref. thetorch) if I needed to restrict myself to the C-series. I know it reflects too much. For the <= 1970 mufflers (silver) reflection would be more appropriate.

Shaun, if you where in Europe, I would probably use you... I did some studying before and read you use H and E or V for UV stability. I know you are not a fan of the air cured C product. So I continued searching for someone with an oven and found one. I will use the V-series.
